SHERRI SHEPHERD CLARIFIES ABORTION REMARKS: Also, “View” co-host apologizes to boss Barbara for joke about ’saving’ her

SherriTwo minutes into Wednesday’s broadcast of “The View,” co-host Sherri Shepherd began addressing the controversial quotes that emerged from her interview with black Christian women’s magazine, Precious Times.

It was reported Monday that she told the publication she has had “more abortions than I’d like to count” and that she wished her co-host Barbara Walters could be “saved.” Yesterday morning, she apologized to Walters, who was not present during the broadcast, and clarified her remarks about having many abortions.

She said the reporter started out by asking how she deals with her fears as a member of “The View.”

Shepherd explained Wednesday: “My joke was “Oh sometimes I say ‘Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Meyers would be so good at this table. And they could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved.’ It was a joke that I made. It didn’t come off the way I wanted it to.”

“I called Barbara in France and I told her [about the quote], and Barbara laughed,” said Shepherd. “She didn’t ask me to say this, but I do want to say Barbara, if I offended you in any way, I apologize. I love you.”

As for her other headline-making remark about having multiple abortions, Shepherd explained that she intended only to encourage women who are going through the guilt and shame of abortions by sharing her own experiences.

“[The reporter] didn’t print the entire quote,” she clarified. “So all it said was, “I’ve had more abortions than I can count.”

She shared the rest of her quote, telling her co-hosts: “I had suffered from a lot of shame and guilt, and I didn’t know how to forgive myself, and a wonderful woman at one of the women’s conferences I speak at came to me and said, ‘Sherri, you know when you get to heaven all your babies are going to be there saying, ‘Hi momma.’”

NO CHARGES IN SHARPTON INVESTIGATION: Federal prosecutors drop probe into possible tax fraud by the civil rights leader

Oprah KidsRev. Al Sharpton is out of hot water with the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Federal prosecutors dropped their investigation into allegations that the activist cheated on his taxes and extorted contributions from corporations in exchange for not protesting against them.

Sharpton has agreed to pay millions of dollars in back taxes but he won’t face criminal charges or have to appear before a grand jury.

About a dozen of Sharpton’s aides who were served with federal subpoenas will no longer be required to testify.

However, Sharpton and his National Action Network (NAN) will have to pay unpaid taxes which are believed to total anywhere between $2 million and $9 million. Prosecutors have given the case to the IRS which will calculate Sharpton and the NAN’s final tax bills.

“According to the government, Rev. Sharpton individually owed in excess of $1 million and NAN owed in excess of $1 million, over 50% of which was penalties in both cases,” Sharpton’s lawyer, Michael Hardy, said.

Sharpton’s legal bills could add up to an additional $2 million.

Sharpton earns about $750,000 a year through his various media gigs: his syndicated daily radio show (heard in 40 markets nationwide), weekly TV show and appearances on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” He gets between $15,000 and $20,000 each time he appears on the lecture circuit and another $2,000 each time he gives a guest sermon at somebody’s church. He’s still earning royalties on two books, as well.

When you add all of those numbers up, Sharpton can easily pocket a million dollars a year. He puts a lot of that money back into the National Action Network. Most of the group’s income and tax records were destroyed in a fire that gutted the NAN headquarters a few years ago.

EDDIE MURPHY MAY GO BACK TO STANDUP: Actor flirts with retirement from films

Eddie SUIs Eddie Murphy getting tired of the Hollywood grind? While plugging his upcoming film “Meet Dave,” due in theaters July 11, the actor told “Extra’s” Tanika Ray that he may leave movies for good and return to his roots on stage.

“I have close to fifty movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” he said, adding, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do standup.”

Murphy, 47, is still attached to revive his Axel Foley character in a fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” film. He admits to having had initial reservations about the project, because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.” Murphy said he agreed to do “Cop 3″ because he was offered an obscene amount of money.

“They said this is how much we’re going to pay you. I said, ‘let’s go shoot it! I don’t care if the script ain’t right,” he said.

As for Eddie’s love life, the bachelor told “Extra” he is currently looking for a woman with “just honesty and some other things.”

“Between A Rock and A Hard Place”

Do you ever feel that your potential for new life is held captive by hard times? Are you stuck between a rock and a hard place?

It is easy to allow temporal problems to level us and determine our long-term perspective. We easily allow the rocks in life to shape and influence us to the point of mental death and emotional decay. It is time to follow Christ’s example and change our perspectives. Jesus was a sculpture who used the stone that was put in the exit of his grave as a stepping stone and not a barrier. No rock nor hard place can keep us from the momentum of God’s resurrecting love and new life. The hard places in life must not keep us from our purpose. We must become spiritual sculptors who transform hard rocks into beautiful works of art.

The movement of God in our lives allows us to sculpt adventure out of adversity, shape flexibility out of the unyielding, and mold beauty out of what appears to be ugly. There was a rock and there was a hard place, but Jesus was not stuck between them for long. He did not allow his rock to negatively shape him, he was a spiritual sculptor who positively shaped it.

What are the rocks of resistance that you believe bind you?
How do you feel behind the rock?
How can you shape your adversity into adventure?
How can you mold beauty out the ugly things that you face in life?
How is God calling you to be more flexible in the face of the unyielding?
